The VHRN public health research platform

Public health is « the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting mental and physical health and efficiency through organized community efforts for the sanitation of the environment, the control of communicable infections, the education of the individual in personal hygiene, the organization of medical and nursing services for the early diagnosis and preventive treatment of disease, and the development of social machinery to ensure to every individual a standard of living adequate for the maintenance of health, so organizing these benefits as to enable every citizen to realize his birthright of health and longevity. » (WHO, 1952).

Several organizations, experts and researchers in Quebec dedicate their efforts to make a lasting contribution to the improvement and protection of the health and well-being of people locally, nationally and internationally. Various aspects are well covered, including the analysis and management of risks and determinants of health policy and health programs, improving health systems and reducing social inequalities in health.

The Vision Health Research Network Public Health Platform Public Health is a new initiative in Quebec. The Network wishes here encourage research efforts in the field of eye care, and by various means, starting with an initiation of its members to the concept of visual health across a population.
